Herp with me
Welcome to my herping page! I like finding and photographing reptiles and amphibians in the wild, and admiring their natural behaviors, then leaving them in peace to continue living their wild lives.
The herp lovers I know fall into three buckets - field herpers, keepers, people who do both. I fall firmly into the field herping-only category. For whatever reason, keeping doesn't appeal to me. I had a bearded dragon as a kid. I guess that was enough! To me it's far more interesting to see a native animal in its native habitat doing what it evolved to do in the place it evolved to do it.
I've mostly been exploring close to home. There is astonishing variety of species and habitats right in my own "backyard" -- Southern California, a world hot spot for lizard diversity, and a home to an astonishing 200+ herp species. For now, the furthest I've ventured from home specifically for herps was a very short trip to Snake Road, a well-known and protected research natural area in Southern Illinois. At some point in the future, I'll probably travel abroad.
